My Approach
Here is what you can expect
I offer diagnostic evaluations, one-on-one therapy, and group therapy at various levels of intensity depending on what fits best for your goals.
Evaluation and Consultation
A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including the use of standardized assessment tools, will help us pinpoint the nature of your difficulties, how they came to be, and why they have persisted over time. I will learn about you as a whole person, including your strengths, values, and specific goals. Then, I will share my impressions and recommendations for a plan of treatment. If we mutually agree that we are a good therapeutic fit, we can make the decision together to proceed with ongoing treatment.
Individual therapy
For many people, treatment goals include finding effective coping strategies, reducing the interference of symptoms in daily life, and more fully engaging in valued activities such as school, work, hobbies, and relationships. We will set the aims and pace of your treatment collaboratively and monitor progress. I employ short-term, solution-focused therapies that have been shown in scientific studies to promote change and help people feel better. These include:
-
Shifting thinking and behavior patterns that aren’t serving you.
-
Overriding avoidance and escape patterns and instead gradually facing situations that are uncomfortable but good for you.
-
Cultivating mindfulness, acceptance of emotional experiences and mental flexibility in the service of committed action aligned with your values
-
Core skills for coping through stormy emotions and navigating interpersonal challenges. I do not currently offer full-model DBT, but will integrate DBT skills into treatment when helpful.
-
I offer targeted cognitive-behavioral treatments for ADHD and insomnia.
If you have sacrificed too much already for the sake of keeping unwanted feelings at bay, I am here to support you through the challenging journey of accepting your experiences as they are, retaking command, and bravely building a life of meaning and fulfillment
